Alvaro Pascual-Leone MD, PhD, Principal Investigator
Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, a Senior Scientist at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, and Medical Director of the Deanna and Sidney Wolk Center for Memory Health at Hebrew SeniorLife.
Dr. Pascual–Leone is an international leader in the study and modulation of human cortical plasticity and a pioneer in the use of noninvasive brain stimulation and its application for the study of brain behavior relations and the development of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in neuropsychiatry. A major focus of Dr. Pascual-Leone’s research is on maintenance of brain health across the lifespan. Dr. Pascual-Leone also sees patients as a cognitive neurologist and dementia specialist in the Wolk Center for Memory Health, where the focus is on comprehensive, patient-centered, personalized care and multidisciplinary, holistic support of individuals with cognitive decline, their families, and caregivers.
Davide Cappon MS, PhD, Sub-Investigator
Davide Balos Cappon, MS, PhD is an Assistant Scientist at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and a practicing board-certified clinical neuropsychologist at the Deanna and Sidney Wolk Center for Memory Health at Hebrew SeniorLife.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Cappon has a multidisciplinary background with specific training and expertise in clinical translational research involving device-based neuromodulation techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial electrical stimulation (tES). He has conducted numerous studies examining the mechanisms, safety, and efficacy of these novel noninvasive therapeutic approaches to improve psychiatric symptoms and cognitive functions in aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
At Hebrew SeniorLife, another central theme of Dr. Cappon's research is preserving and lengthening healthy aging across the lifespan, expanding our understanding of multimodal factors determining lifelong health.
On-Yee (Amy) Lo, PhD
On-Yee (Amy) Lo, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Assistant Scientist at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, Hebrew SeniorLife. As a researcher with a background in physical therapy and neuroscience, Dr. Lo has dedicated her career to prevent falls, promote functional independence, and prolong quality of life in older adults. Her experiences and expertise in translational research have equipped her to: 1) investigate the underlying neural mechanism of center control of gait and mobility from healthy young, healthy older, to older adults with functional limitations, 2) develop innovative tools to measure remote gait and mobility assessment as well as novel interventions to improve gait and mobility via optimization of center control systems, and 3) implement effective, evidence-based, central-control-embodied rehabilitative strategies via a patient-centered approach.
